Management Development
‘Influence those who influence others.’ John Fairchild
A participant from an IT company talking about what inspires her as a manager.
Developing managers is an essential investment for organisational success. Research over a 7 year period into 67 UK companies (Sheffield University 1997) found that management practices positively ‘explained 19% of the variation between companies in changes in profitability and 18% in changes in productivity…’
If the leadership of an organisation wants to deliver superior performance then it must develop the capability to perform. Management Development is a key element in achieving this. It is every senior manager’s responsibility to build an environment that enables the success of the people in the organisation
The purpose of our programmes is to address both the organisational requirements as well as any personal development needs identified. Our programmes are designed to involve as much practical learning as possible to enable managers to apply their learning to deal with real workplace issues.
Project work on a CMI programme
Case Study: We designed and ran modular Management Development Programmes for high potential managers in a Newspaper group which subsequently won a National Training award.
Results: ‘Wendy's clear, well-presented and thought-provoking sessions continue to impress me.'
An Editor in a Newspaper Group
Case Study: We conducted a Needs analysis for and subsequent design of a suite of international management development programmes for a FTSE100 company. We managed the delivery of the programmes in conjunction with a leading business school, and evaluation of organisational impact.
Results: 'I would like to thank you for sending me on the above course. It was probably the best course I have been on. It was hard work but at the end of it I felt that I had made very positive gains from it. It made me really look at the way I approach my job.’
A Team Leader in a Business Services company
A blended learning approach is used including case studies and practical exercises to personality questionnaires, e-learning and formal inputs. However, the main case study is managerial effectiveness in the organisation itself. Participants are asked to relate this subject matter to their own experience so that the transfer of learning to their own reality is maximised.
We also run bespoke management development programmes that are accredited to Levels 3 (junior managers/team leaders), 5 (middle/senior managers) and 7 (department heads/directors) by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), thereby ensuring a minimum standard of competence across your management group in the UK, and overseas if relevant.
We have successfully tutored hundreds of managers in the private and public sectors to successful completion. For example, one of our students recently received an award from her organisation for the contribution made by her project, tutored by us on her Diploma programme.
The programme can be run in a number of ways; in-house with a group of managers, or, externally with managers from other organisations. It can comprise a combination of e-learning, workshops, action learning sets and/or an individual coaching approach. Our standard 360 tool can be used for the programme or we can use your competencies to create your own version. It’s your choice.
