Career and Outplacement Counselling

‘Whatever you can do or dream you can be, begin it.’ Goethe

In a rapidly changing world there are few jobs for life. Sometimes we choose to move on and other times we are forced to look elsewhere due to restructuring or closure.

Redundancy is perhaps one of the most traumatic events in an employee's working life. The impact that this has on an employee is far reaching - it does not only affect that employee but it will also affect the morale, motivation and productivity of the employees who 'survive'.

Research suggests that organisations offering outplacement and redundancy support to their staff often fare better in the long term than companies that do not. Outplacement leads those remaining in the organisation to look at it in a more positive light, in particular when the leaver has had a good redundancy and outplacement experience.

We work with people in groups or 1:1 to help them decide their best way forward, helping them to quickly move on through outplacement and redundancy counselling.

This may involve career direction counselling and coaching, personality profiling, clarifying motivators and values, creating powerful C.Vs, understanding the job market and search techniques, and interview preparation. We also look at the early days in a new job.

Case Study: We set up an in-house Career Centre at a telecommunications company that was making a number of redundancies. The Centre was stocked with careers information, and our career counsellors were available to meet with staff for 1:1 meetings as required.

Results: It provided the model for a series of centres around the world.
